What's in a name?

A name ~ everyone has one, most people have a vague idea what their own means, but few give them much more thought. This is not the case in our house at the moment. Names are a common topic of conversation. As the time draws ever-so-nearer for our little one to arrive into this world, I am getting more and more worried that we haven't really come up with a name!

Why is it that when you are 12 you know what names you want to call your children? But by the time you are married and having children and you have to pick a name, the 'cool' names you had in mind back then sound a little silly or outdated or simply just won't do!

I have to admit, I am the fussy one. Matthias is much more easy going when it comes to the names. For a girl I want something a little different, but not too out there and for a boy something that is strong and masculine. But I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for!! We still have 2 months but still, name hunting is proving harder than I thought. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! :)

You know I was definitely of a similar mind when naming our children. I wanted something different but not to the point where they might be teased. Being called Sarah was annoying sometimes for me as there were several more Sarahs in my year at school. I imagine the fact that your name is so unique was special to you? I always stay away from the current top ten baby names. Strength can be found in family names but then the unique factor is gone. We chose family names for middle names. Right now I am reading some books to my kids and they are about a brother and sister called Charlie and Lola. I think I like reading them more than the kids do. They are imaginitive and fun kids. If I have any more I might
use either one of those. But I don't mind if you use them!!

Hey guys,
I just found your blog, and had to comment on this one. Mary and I could not agree on a name at all. Mary also tries to stay away from any popular names, but I say, it's popular for reason, it's a nice name. Our son was born on sunday night at about 7:45, he didn't have a name until about 7am the next morning. It turned out to be none of the real options that we'd "narrowed" it down to. I just said, "how about Joshua Benjamin?" and she loved it.
