School Preparations!
Seriously I did not realize how much preparation a parent needed to have before sending their child to Kindergarten. I don't just mean the mental preparation, yes I find it hard to let my little boy be with another adult for 6 hours of the day! But then there is the physical preparation.....OH MY WORD! I cannot believe all the things we had to buy Noah for Kindergarten! I mean goodness when I was preparing to go to Primary school, I got a backpack, lunch box and a school uniform. I thought that was a lot, but boy was I wrong. Noah had a list as long as my arm of things we had to buy. Then there was the hassle of buying all these 'school goodies'. I really do not like crowds at the best of times, so I set out 3 weeks early to get all his things. The stores had only been stocking school supplies for a week, but I guess there were a few other mothers who had the same idea and it was manic. Whoever said the early bird gets the worm, obviously hadn't lived in Hawaii and tried shopping for school supplies early!! Anyway, after 3 hours of shopping, because you can't get everything from one store here, it's just not going to be THAT simple, I had finished. And goodness, I was SO ready to be finished and so were the boys! Unfortunately for me, my school preparations for Noah hadn't finished there.....you must be thinking, what now....well let me tell you, everything had to be labelled. Yes EVERYTHING. So there I was the next week with my label maker, sticking Noah's name on 96 crayons, 12 #2 pencils, 24 colouring pencils, 10 fine felt pens, 10 bold felt pens, white board markers, permanent pens, 11 folders, 2 plastic folders, a place mat, a clipboard, 2 boxes tissues, kitchen roll, erasers, scissors, glue, ear phones, hand sanitizer, sanitary wipes, 5 composition books, pencil case, plastic sleeves.....I'm sure I'm missing something? Oh yes Ziploc gallon bags! Just to prove to you all here is a photo of my hard work!! (Although the labels can't be seen on all of the items, I promise you they are there!)
Just to think that I was excited to buy his school supplies last year. I have certainly changed my tune about that and I am dreading next year!
Well, the experience for Noah so far has been all fun. He's loved picking out all these fun things for him. He did a Ready, Set, K program last week (just for 4 days) and absolutely loved it. I do think my little chatter box did talk a little more than he should have done, as most of his booklet wasn't completed, but I know he will get on just fine when school starts up for him.
